As the Reserve develops, we will offer more education, livelihood support, career development and commercial opportunities, enhancing quality of life.
What species are being introduced to the Reserve?
We are reintroducing 23 animal and bird species that were historically found in the Reserve but which are now scarce or are even extinct within its boundaries. These include sand gazelle, mountain gazelle, and oryx as well as Arabian leopard and cheetah. Underpinning the wildlife reintroduction program is an extensive habitat restoration project which will restore more than 400 local species of plants. This will enhance carrying capacity and protect the Reserve area from soil erosion. Our reintroduction and rewilding programs are based on grounded research into the ecology of the area and an understanding of the species that currently and used to make the region their home.
